Well, after the second most stressful 2 months of my life and a waterfall of beer…100 ounces a day, too little food and weight loss, it climaxed yesterday in my buying an apartment. (First most stressful was partner's successful battle with cancer.)
Immediately after signing and paying, everything drained from me and I became hollow, I could barely speak, but in a good, vacant, empty way. I got on the subway to celebrate with a nice lunch and BAM, my bunion joint started aching…same toe from THE BIG ONE decades ago. It came on like gang busters. Massaging helped a bit.
Truncated lunch plans and we went to a quickie place instead that would take far less time to get home. About 90 minutes ater the pain started I got to my medicine chest and popped 2 colchicine and hit the recliner. I prayed that I hadn't waited too long. AN hour later I took one more intending on needing a fourth. I didn't…the pain disappeared. All is well this morning.
(Note to self: carry a couple colchicines at all times…right along with my nitroglycerine.)
With a gout attack, delay is your enemy.
But I can GUARANTEE one more item should be added to any gout trigger list: STRESS.
Another maybe is that perhaps massage at the first sign of an attack is beneficial, a corollary is that oftem we awaken to excruciating pain that could might been ameliorated with massage a couple hours earlier, except we were asleep when it began. I'll add that to my pile of disassociated gout lore.

The move has just BEGUN…I am now in possession of 2 apartments and am just getting moving quotes. I have not yet made a decision on the LP's. ANd it DOES have other ramifications, like the turntable, and a biggie: I want a Dolby/DTS theater system for video BUT only the very highest end receivers (over $1000) commonly have humble stereo phono inputs. So, WITH all these LP's I have stuck myself with Dolby Pro Logic, a 20 year old technology that generates artificial surround sound, and it detracts from the theater experience with the TV.
I'll PM you when I make the final decision. I cannot delay too long because the extra rent here tallies in at well over a $grand a month, a high price for procrastination.

Get a phono preamp:

I's cheap, and it works. I used the more expensive USB version of the above, and it worked wonderfully for digitizing some of my old vinyl.

November 6, 2010 at 7:58 am #7568zip2playParticipantI've thought long and hard about those pre-amps and if I keep the records, I will pick one up, I;ll have no choice if I want to upgrade my receiver. I am always fearful about putting any extra equipment in line for fear of sound degradation. But after all, what is a a phono inpur on a receiver except a built in preamp.
At least the one MYFOOTHURTS (thank you) recommended looks more professional than some of the preamps I've seen.
